When a family has two active accounts, one for present year and one for next year, have a pop-up or some other OBVIOUS message to be sure they apply the payment to the correct year.
It is a real hassle to sort it out later! And, I had over 10 families who got payments in the incorrect year, even though I warned them to watch to select the correct year.
I believe this is available now and you can request this pop-up be added by Smart Tuition...
